Solar Lighting

Solar Lighting

I’m still installing electricity in the small house in the wood in the form of solar panels, but in the meantime, there are soo many other important things to be done it has not been completed. The last few trips were specifically to finish the rusty tin siding on the house and under the eaves. That’s all finished now, I can get on with the other important tasks, such as wiring the house for electricity. Since the solar panels are not completed I use these two rechargeable light bulbs for lighting at night. I don’t need much light since I don’t stay up late and there’s nothing else that uses electricity. I turn in pretty early because I’m usually pretty beat up from working all day. In the evening when I go into the house I’ll run the generator for a bit to continue to charge batteries, my phone, computer drill, batteries, and such.

Since the generator is a little noisy I only run it for a few hours while I download images and time-lapses I shot during the day. There is no pure sine inverter on the generator it’s not good to connect my laptop computer to charge it. Normally while at the house I don’t charge the computer because of the generator, I’ll wait until I plug into grid power.

These two bulbs supply light to the whole house, especially since there are no walls. While on the computer I don’t need any light as it’s supplied by the computer screen. These lights have three different settings for light output, Low, medium, and high. These lights are advertised to supply light for up to 8 hours depending on the power setting used. The next morning I’ll take them outside in the sun to let them recharge. If I’m using the generator to power my tools I’ll plug the light directly into the generator as it’s a faster charge than the small solar panels that come with the lights. They’ve worked well for the amount of time I use them which is only about a few hours per night.

After completing my work on the computer I’ll turn in because it’s usually late (9 to 11 P.M.) If I’m not too tired I’ll watch a movie I’ve downloaded on my kindle and I don’t need any ambient light for that.

Overall these solar lights work great in supplying enough light for the house at night.
