Rain is turning to ice and snow is falling in Northeastern and southern states, but in my backyard, here in southern California, I’m seeing new growth from one of my grapevines. Spring normally starts in March, but we’ve been having record breaking days of heat and it seems as if plants think it’s time to wake up and grow.
It will be interesting to see how my grapevines fare this growing season as the last season was a wash because the grapes that actually make it to maturity developed some kind of fungus. As a result, I cut all the vines back to try to get rid of it. Hopefully, there is no return this coming growing season.
