Just as I was getting into shooting and editing more video I realized I need a bigger, better, faster, kooler computer. I was a (Mac) man, but the speed and computing power I needed to render video would have cost too much to purchase an Apple computer so I was advised to build my own so I could get exactly what I wanted. Since I was going to have hands-on help (I’ve never built a computer) I was eager to build a better computer. I ordered all the parts and we assembled the computer in a few hours. It’s actually a gaming computer, but I don’t play games so it’s only used for editing video.
My friend, co-worker, and partner in all things video provided the tower with the nice Green Neon lights. In this computer we installed an AMD-Ryzen 7 1700 3Ghz 8 core Processor, an ASRock -Ab350M Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard, G.Skill – Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2×8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory (with another 16 GB on the way), MSI Radeon RX 580 DirectX 12 RX 580 ARMOR 8G OC 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card, 2-Western Digital -Blue 500 GB 2.5″ Solid State Drive, EVGA – 500 w 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply, Seagate BarraCuda ST8000DM004 8TB 5400 RPM 256MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5″ Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive and a 28.0″ Samsung 3840×2160 monitor.
I just went back to parts picker to see what I spent but since it was about two years ago, the price for most of the parts listed above is right a 1,600.00. When I built my computer the cost was right around 900.00 but that was without the 28 inch monitor and the additional 16GB of RAM so with the RAM and monitor the price was right about 1,200.00. Not bad for a computer for video editing. I don’t want to think about how much I would have had to spend to get the same or less in an Apple computer.
